Judge Michael J. Bordallo

 

Mike is the son of Attorney Fred E. Bordallo and Annie Underwood Bordallo. He was born on July 14, 1961, and was raised in Agana Heights and Tamuning. He graduated from Saint Anthony School in Tamuning in 1975 and from Father Duenas Memorial High School in 1979. He attended and received a Bachelor’s of Business Administration Degree from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana in 1983.

He returned to Guam where he worked for his father’s law office and as a consultant to the Committee on Education reviewing and drafting legislation. He attended law school and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Notre Dame in 1987. He took and passed the California Bar Exam in 1987, returned to Guam and began working as an Assistant Attorney General representing Child Protective Services in the Family Court.

He was sworn in as a member of the Guam Bar Association in 1988 and entered private practice with his father. He has practiced for the last six (6) years with his first cousin, Michael F. Phillips, in the firm of Phillips & Bordallo, P.C.

He has represented and participated in numerous actions, involving a variety of issues including:

  • Enjoining the desecration of ancient burial sites.
  • Defense of landowners against the Air Force and United States with regard to land takings after World War II.
  • Implementation of the Chamorro Land Trust Act.
  • Implementation of the Cost of Living (COLA) for the Government Retirees.
  • Representation of several legislative committees since 1992.
  • Representation of the Guam Board of Education & the Department of Education

He was a founding member of the Guam Commonwealth Hearings Association. He has been active in the sports community both as a player and coach. He is a former president of the Guam Soccer Association and has been coaching youth soccer since 1989. He has also played varsity football since 1989.

Mike is married to the former Carla L. Benito and they have two children; their son Joshua, age 4, and their daughter, Stephanie, age 2-1/2.
